The Future of Vue.Js in 2018 – Insights from TangibleDesign

“Keep Moving Forward’ – Walt Disney

At the time of Gutenberg on WordPress, Authors at TangibleDesign, Piotr Małłek and Piotr Ferenc share their insights with us in the technology world of javascript framework – Vue.js and their experiences as a ThemeForest Author in an evolving space.

At Tangible Design, we work on creating themes for WordPress. Our team consists of 2 people – Piotr Małłek and Piotr Ferenc, and we are based in Poland. We have known each other for over 10 years and before starting our adventure as Authors on ThemeForest, we worked on our own sites and created websites for clients.

What do you love about your work and why?

With the current popularity of Vue.js rapidly increasing, we love the possibility of creating solutions that are being used by people all over the world. We have sold our products in over 100 countries, which is insane!

Is where you live a good place to be a creative professional?

Themeforest is a mature market but we believe there is still a lot of room for the new products. There are so many young people in Poland who are interested in the field of technology, with the emergence of very original projects, such as CD Projekt Red, LiveChat and Brand24 – it’s a positive influence on the startup environment.

What is your advice to authors regarding how to create a successful portfolio?

We believe that Authors have a great opportunity to experiment with these emerging fields and explore new technologies. This is in keeping with our philosophy of focusing on quality over quantity. We think that it’s better to offer a product that executes one thing perfectly, as opposed to many things – adequately.

To what do you attribute your success – how is your business unique?

We started to develop our first WordPress Theme, FamilyMentor which was strongly inspired by the need of our friend who was working as a child therapist. We built the theme that suits her needs and at the same time, we started to sell it on ThemeForest. This project proved that we were capable to create themes that can be used around the world. It was so exciting!

However, creating products that will be used by both people who are beginners in the world of WordPress and experienced web designers is challenging. We always have hundreds of ideas in our minds – many of them are quite good (at least we think so!). However, the real art is in the challenge of determining which ones are most valuable for our clients.

Vue.Js

For us, it was experimenting with new technology such as Vue.js which helped us to create a unique product. The world of JS has really grown recently, it’s like new frameworks have been born out of nothing! The most popular ones are AngularJS and ReactJS, however, these are very complex solutions and our attention was drawn to Vue.js, which shares similar functionality with the mainstream solutions and is easier to integrate into WordPress.

MyHome

We also knew that in order to compete with already existing products we need to bring something new to the market.  It was here that we decided to create our first theme for a local real estate agency ‘MyHome’, which uses Vue.js.

It’s the ease of creating dynamic components using Vue.js that was very tempting for us. Until then we were using jQuery for this purpose, but everyone who has ever tried to do anything more complex using jQuery is aware of the ‘spaghetti’ it leads to :)

You can check examples of search forms below that have some unique features: no page refresh, parent fields e.g. city > neighborhood > street, keyword autocomplete, hiding fields that are not related to property type e.g. when you choose “Offices” it will not display “bedrooms” and many other options:

The positive reception of MyHome by clients has opened new paths to collaborate with some really talented people who can add value to the product – it represents everything that we have learned so far.

What or who inspires you and why?

We are huge fanboys of Elon Musk. This man (or Martian?) can introduce ideas that are completely out of this world. We also have bad moments sometimes, and that’s when the sight of the Falcons landing simultaneously really helps us to get back on track. See it here on YouTube.

What is your advice to other authors regarding how to create a successful portfolio?

We also recommend Authors to participate in different types of events organized by Envato. It may not impact your portfolio directly, but often enables you to look at things from a wider perspective. We had an opportunity to partake in the Halloween Character Contest 2017 and the Cracow Envato Meetup. It’s a pleasant way to change your routine and have fun too!

How do you balance work and family life?

We both work from home which allows us to spend a lot of time with our families. Since the beginning of Tangible Design, one of us has gotten married and the other became a father, so a balance is possible. I think it helps us stay in touch with reality.

What are your plans for the future?

We think that it’s still the beginning of our journey with ThemeForest. We are currently focusing on further developments to MyHome and have begun working on a new template in the directory category. We can’t wait to deliver it to its first users!
